How Does the Science Work?

It might feel like magic, but the process is rooted in sophisticated molecular biology. During pregnancy, fragments of your baby’s DNA—known as cell-free fetal DNA (cffDNA)—begin to circulate in the mother’s bloodstream.

By the 8-week mark, there is typically a high enough concentration of this DNA to be accurately detected via a simple blood draw. SneakPeek® Labs utilizes a process called Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (qPCR) to look for the presence of the Y chromosome.

How to Read the Results:

The Male Y Chromosome Detected ⇒ It’s a BOY! Since biological mothers do not carry the Y chromosome, its presence is a definitive sign that you are carrying a son.

No Y Chromosome Detected ⇒ It’s a GIRL! If only X chromosomes are found, you can start planning for a daughter.
